So how many of you are broke right now? I know right? Its hurts. Moths literally fly out of my wallet. I have to shield my eyes from pretty shop windows, and even Primark is too expensive! I have to console myself with buying a ‘fancy’ body soap from Tesco to make me feel better.
So the Christmas and New Year hullabaloo is over. And now we have to start paying dem bills. And by god. Me and the ball and chain did our budget for the year (a year that includes a trip home to NZ) and it was eye watering. I think I passed out for a bit.
It must be known that Mumma likes to shop. I love getting new clothes, books, music, weird home stuff that we don’t have a place for yet! But unfortunately Mumma is not a lady of the night, nor has the job that Kim Kardashian has (whatever that is).
Mumma needs to ask work for a massive raise (pshaw) find a new job (still a while away) or reduce and monitor spending habits. I decided on the third one.
I drew up a chart in my Bullet Journal (blog coming on this phenomenon) and set out to track my spending habits over January and coming into February. I found out my weakness is sales. H&M. I bought about £40 worth of stuff from there. TK Maxx? £20. What was it? Clothes and stationary. Oh I love stationary. And while it is nice to have these, I didn’t need them! I have a huge closet full of clothes, and so much stationary. So much.
So this has woken me up bit and forced to me think long term about what I want. I have a student loan to pay for. A mortgage. A trip to New Zealand. A trip to Disney in Murrrca next year. These are all things I put on my Fuck It list (read my blog about this!) and want to achieve. So I have to knuckle down and really go for it this year.
Here are some tips that I found and I also use!
- Keep a tracker of EVERYTHING you spend. Even your Costa coffee.
- Sit on something for a week before you buy it. You might find that you might not want it by then.
- Ask yourself if you really need it. Do you have something at home that will be a better option?
- Why are you shopping? Are you bored? Distracted by the shiny shiny? (So me.) Then that is not a reason to shop.
- Shopping with friends. This is not really that good unless you are shopping for stuff you need or window shopping, otherwise you will buy some crap and have to return it, and well, thats effort. (ugh). Get some hobbies that mean you stay away from the stores.
- Make own lunches, brew own coffee, bake own cakes, etc. Get crafty!
- Don’t put toooo much pressure on yourself. If you see something cute, and you feel longing, get it! Life’s too short. Just make sure that you are really wanting this item and can’t live without it!
- Have a wardrobe clear out with me and we can sort out clothes that you can sell for extra moolah! Message me 🙂
Good luck team! Let me know how you get on.

Hi guys! So to preface this review, I have not been paid by Clinique to do this review, its just that I want to rave about this foundation!!
So I have mixed skin. I have dry parts and super oily parts. At work the air con, heat, and general crazy environment means that I can fry an egg on my forehead by the end of the day with the oil I’ve accumulated. I carry a beauty blender and a tray of translucent powder around in my bag to blot blot blot, which frankly, my bag has enough crap in it! Previously I had used Moisture Surge from Clinique, and it was great, but then I stopped using it and made the mistake of going to a cheaper brand. Result? Oil Central. You should always spend money with a good brand. Not £6.99, Taryn. So I had had enough, I went to the Clinique counter in Debenhams. I know the manager there a bit, so just laid it straight out that I had heard about Superbalanced and she proceeded to take me through the process of matching my skin. She gave me benefits such as it puts moisture into my dry parts and mattes up my oily parts, and then gave me 10 day trial (amazing) and gave me the most important tip of all: Wear it on a day off, at work, and on a night out. This will put it through its paces. I have worn it through these and am pleased to say it really works!! Work was the tough contender, but it came through, and instead of my oil giving me a slick look, it managed my make my skin glow! All in all, I would give this a 9/10, its really good and will stick with you through thick and thin! Will be buying again!
What foundations are you using? Any recommendations for me to try?
So I am going to share with you my Holy Grail. The reason why people don’t run screaming from me. The saviour of my London grown under eye circles.
Soap and Glory’s Kick Ass Fake Awake Dark Circle Concealer.
It is the JAM!
So strolling around in my Boots, I came across Soap and Glory makeup, more of which I am going to try out as I am pretty impressed with what they have so far. Soap and Glory is an amazing affordable brand and smells amazing. They do a makeup line also and it looks intriguing.
I was in the market for something to hide my blue black under eyes, that while I want to look like a racoon, with these eye bags, I am a raccoon with some baggage issues.
So as in the image above, it comes in a yellow tube, and when you take the lid off its a mound of yellow creamy stuff. Now don’t be fooled. It may not look like much product but it has lasted me a looooong time. And I have used it copiously some mornings.
It goes on really smooth and then I pat it onto the under eye and up to the corners of my eyes. It really sits well and because its quite creamy it really sits nicely on the skin. Then you can apply your foundation etc on top. Often I will wear it on a no makeup day and it works a treat. I am officially sold on this product and will use it every day now!
10/10 for this one, get your own HERE:

You all know it. Flip open a magazine and there are stick thin models wearing v expensive clothing that you may never afford but covet. Then it filters down to the high street. Then you try it on, and DUN DUN DUUUUN. IT LOOKS HORRIBLE. Heart breaks. It is a painful lesson to bear, that the item you have been coveting for months is NOT WHAT YOU THOUGHT IT WAS.
The best way to navigate the trends is to pick items that will fit into your wardrobe easily and something that you can wear with at least three items. If you don’t wear it, it will sit there with price labels on until that style comes back around and you still can’t wear it.
For example, the newest trend is to mix prints and patterns. This can look like the print factory threw up on you. The key is to pick a colour and get items in that one colour, it will look good!
Another trend was gold midi skirts. Unless you are going to Studio 54, you probably won’t wear this one.
Luckily there are a lot of items that are perfect for your wardrobe. When you go into a store look for the items that will update your wardrobe. I also advise trying something you would never try. Then you either might be surprised or validated.
The world of fashion is a crazy place but you can navigate your way. Don’t feel tempted to wear the latest trends, wear what makes you feel good and you will be setting the trends.
BTW – the 90s are back, for good or bad – so get a tattoo necklace and embrace it!
So I was very lucky to get the Swamp Queen eyeshadow palette for Christmas, and was excited to try this baby out!!
Background: Swamp Queen is the creation of Tarte Cosmetics, and a Youtuber named Grav3yard Girl. She is amazing and wacky and awesome – I definitely recommend watching her!! Anyway they did this amazing collaboration, and I have always heard Tarte have a great reputation for cosmetics, so I was excited to try the two in one!
So it has 9 eye shadow shades, a bronzer, a blusher, and a highlighter.
There are lot of browny and purply tones to mix and match which are amazing for a day time look and then darker tones to smoke it up for evening. I use big baby, haunting and uncommon pretty much every day, and blush with does this thing really work!
The packaging is adorable and so the quality of the makeup is great, my makeup brushes aren’t the best unfortunately so I can’t get much colour on them so I have to keep building colour but with colours such as man cat and dogman even with a crappy brush it gives you great colour pay off!
The highlighter is an icy white and I just use it on my eyebrow bone, and the blush gives me a pink glow although you have to use it sparingly as the colour payoff is amazing!!
All in all, I would give this 7 stars out of 10. I want to try more Tarte cosmetics after this definitely after trying this product!!
Have you tried this palette? What do you think?
So this week I am reviewing the Showgirl mascara by Barry M.
Barry M are my go to on a lot of things, and I will try anything new they come out. I was on the hunt for a mascara and thought I’d try the Showgirl one in their range of mascaras.
So on the side it proclaims extra volume. I tested 1 layer, then 2, then 3 on my top lashes, then just one layer on my bottom lashes.
Now just to say, I am not a professional makeup artist by any means, I am generally terrible, hence why I don’t post pics of me applying as that may do more harm than good!! haha. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it goes on with minimal fuss, bar my lower lashes as I haven’t mastered just getting it on my lashes and not underneath, but it seemed to be easier than other products.
The first coat is one that I would do for every day, and it looked great, picking up all the lashes and some I didn’t know I had!
The second coat strengthened those lashes really well.
The third, I thought I had false eyelashes on, legit.
So all in all, I am super impressed, and would definitely buy again!
I give it 8 stars out of 10!
Have you tried it? What do you think?
