Tiredtiredtired – A Woman’s Story.

Hi team!

You ever get that feeling you are spinning too many plates? The old trick of spinning plates on sticks and trying to keep them all going? Just me with that analogy?  Okay.

At the moment, life is busy. Hands up if you are in the same boat.

I went from being a Netflix ho to a business lady. And it’s a totally spin around I can tell you!

I am best when I am busy. And since I don’t plan on having kids I am resting my best life with the time I have. This means contributing to my community, setting up my own business, and trying to change careers. This means that I am on the go 24/7.

I am writing this blog instead of doing networking, replying to emails, and looking at stats on my blog pages as I am just tired and want to think about ways to relax.

So here are my sure fire ways to make sure you stay sane amongst the madness

  1. Take a bath. I have some Soap and Glory bath stuff that I got from my Secret Santa (holler at you!!)
  2. Read a gloriously thick magazine. (LOVE magazine is out now, and its a helluva great read).
  3. Watch that shitty movie on Netflix you love, even if you have seen it a million times.
  4. Do some stretches and twists, it will relax your body even more.
  5. Submit to a cat nap or going to bed early. It will help, promise.

Any other ways you take time out from your busy life?

GLOW Fashion Edit.

If you are like me, you watched GLOW’s ten episodes if not at once, then over a pretty concentrated time period. Party of Five and Ru Paul’s Drag Race got shafted for this show and it did not disappoint. The music, the storyline, the graphics were PURE perfection.

Not watch it yet? Heres a hypnosis.

Its 1985. Ruth Wilder (played by Alison Brie) is an actress who wants better roles. She auditions for a professional wrestling promotion called the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, or Glow. She is immediately at odds with the director Sam Sylvia (played by Marc Maron) as she overacts in the ring. Also underlying tension is the fact that Ruth unknowingly slept with her best friend Debbie Egan (played by Betty Giplin)’s husband – this underlies the series and ultimately forms the main storyline (I ain’t spoiling nothin for nobody).

I decided to scour one of my favourite websites, ASOS for ideas as they did a GLOW feature not long ago but I wanted to check out and form my own edit for the girl who wants a touch of GLOW. (Not sponsored by ASOS but I do love free stuff. No? Okay.)

So here is the main promo image from the show:

JUST LOOK PEOPLE.

I want all of the outfits PLOIZE.

So what I picked is a selection of my fav products from ASOS that fit the genre of this. I WAS going to do a blog on summer fashion but it got shoved to the side for this, who cares.

Lets get STARTED.

The Leotard.

I love a good leotard. The girls in the show wear them HIGH but if you are not feeling that throw on some denim cutoff shorts and a light jacket for day. Plus the shoes featured later.

Here is my pick from ASOS:

glow fashion leotard

This is super 80’s and super cute, and the model even has great 80s hair. Its a great colour and easy on the wallet. Get it HERE

The Vest Top

So this vest totally has it. The cropped effect, the retroness of the lettering, and how effortless it looks with – you guessed it! – cutoff denim shorts.  This is good for when you are doing the sports. That’s how you say it right? Get it HERE

The Shoes.

You can’t go past the adidas superstar 80s premium trainers for your trip to the 80s. Super comfy, super cool, and keep them shoes clean for that fresh look. Pair with your leotard and your denim shorts and you are good to go to the roller disco. Get your kicks HERE

Lets get into the hair and makeup. I only included two products with this as this is all you need to evoke the 80s. First up is ….

Green Lipstick!

glow fashion lipstick

I know, its a bit tricky to pull off green lipstick. However, I am in LOVE with Illamasqua’s Apocalips Lipstick, it is so nice and muted, and really taps into the vibe of GLOW, and is much like the lipstick that Ruth wears in a scene. Get it HERE

Last, but not least, the main event of the 80’s was HAIRSPRAY. Everyone teased their hair and held it up to dance the night away with hairspray. I’m including my fav brand of the moment, Lee Stafford and his hairspray in this one as the bottle is hot pink and fits with the theme and the product is great! Get it HERE

Thats it folks! Let me know how your 80s summer is going and if you feel the GLOW. Find me on the social media links below and lets talk about the show and the scandals!

Challenging your buying habits and streamlining your wardrobe!

Hi team! This is a blog about your wardrobe and how to buy smarter!

A woman’s wardrobe can cause stress, grief, joy, and bubbling excitement. You get up for the day, you look into your wardrobe, and there are a million different options on who you want to be today. A top and a cool jean means you are fashionably aware yet nonchalant to be like: “Oh this old thang?” while secretly high fiving yourself on choosing said outfit that morning.

Now here comes the tricky part. There are parts of your wardrobe deemed NO ACCESS areas. This means there are clothes there that you want to get into one day, part their prime but can’t bring yourself to get rid of, and the biggest fashion crime, unworn with tags. This happens a lot in wardrobes I have seen over the years and it is a big crime, but a source of shame for people.

These corners of your wardrobe need to be addressed so they can let the rest of your wardrobe shine.

People often buy and take home items, try them on, then realise that they don’t look good outside the shop for whatever reason, then are too embarrassed to take them back so leave them in their wardrobe. This is a big no no in my books. Send it back, get yo money, then buy something you will wear!

Other things in the wardrobe are sentimental items. Now I know this pain as I have a pair of MC Hammer sequin pants that I have not worn in years, but I have kept as I have had a good time wearing them and they have good memories. However, this is a trap. Do you have pictures of you in your beloved item? Good, theres the memories. Throw the sequins away (can’t believe I just typed that who am I?).

Stop waiting to try get into clothes. A woman’s shape is ever changing and mysterious, so just go with the flow and your body and buy clothes that fit well NOW. If you are working on yourself fitness wise (see my Fitness Athleisure wear blog HERE) then good on you, keep that heart ticking and get healthy. Live life now and get clothes that make you look good on the journey.

Another one I see a lot of is tops that have holes, faded, run down, tired. I had a lot of those in my wardrobe and it is amazing how many things past their date I kept or continued to wear into my twenties when they should have stopped in my teens. Even my nightwear was sad. So I updated in good quality jimmy jams and got rid of my holey tshirts and frayed jeans. Get rid of it. Donate any wearable good stuff but get rid of the rest.

Donating is a great way to keep the life of a clothing piece going. When you think about the work that goes into making a piece of clothing, you want to make sure that it gets the most out it as possible. Plus you could make a grown woman scream in the middle of a charity shop because she has been looking for your top for AGES (may or may not be based on the life of the blogger here).

Buy sensibly in the first place. Invest in clothing, don’t just buy a £3 top. Look at the material, the price, where it was made, who is selling it. These factors match up with our own personal values and ensure that we are buying smarter and not just on a whim, which leads to many clothes being wasted.

There are many clothes swaps nights happening around the world, get along to one of those and take your good quality items to swap with other like minded people. This is a great example of the ‘one in, one out’ theory where if you buy something, you get rid of something.Or have one of your own with mates!

So these are a few ways to really challenge yourself and your buying habits, which building a wardrobe that ultimately makes YOU feel good!

Hobbies: Making a Happy Jar

So this last Christmas, I decided it was a great idea to handmake a lot of my presents for people.

Just wow guys. What a lot of hard work (especially as I love being creative but rubbish at it!)

One of the ideas I came across is having a Happy Jar. I made two for two friends and they are a great idea to boost your self esteem when you are low.

All you need is coloured card cut into cards, a fancy swishy pen, some glitter, and a cute container (I used an old fashioned sweet jar!).

I proceeded to write down quotes that have helped me, and left some blank, folded them up and with the glitter, popped them in the container! I used all different colours but really you can do them in your favourite colours, it really is so personal. Other things you can write are:

  • Memories
  • Favourite songs
  • A self-care prompt
  • Leave them blank for writing your own quotes or ideas as you go along
  • A funny story or joke

You can do so much with this and I am now hooked on making them. They look so pretty (see picture below)

Have you made one? Show me!

Review: Lee Stafford Dry Shampoo

Hi guys!

So this week I am reviewing the Lee Stafford Dry Shampoo!

I popped into Poundland for a look and found this on the shelf. Naturally being a new product magpie I bought this and his Kiss of Colour in Pink (review to come).

So my verdict on this – IT IS AMAZING.

The back of the can says to hold from about 16cm away onto your root area then rub the powder with your fingers. I did this, and then started to work on the product. It went on really well and didn’t actually leave a powder for me to rub in, but I massaged the roots and then brushed up my hair. It really made a big difference to my hair, compared to another one I had used earlier. It really have it more volume and had a nice scent. I styled my hair and then went out for the day. Over the day I did hair checks and my hair kept really nice and not oily, yet still remained shiny and bouncy. It also has a nice scent as well, and my husband also used it and it really worked on his hair too!

Overall I’d give it a 10/10, would highly recommend to everyone!!

Fashion in Film: My Best Friend’s Wedding

HI team, welcome to another in this series of Fashion. In. Fiiiiiiiiilm…

….(*ahem*)

Anyway this week is My Best Friend’s Wedding. Now let me start off with saying Julia Roberts is a international treasure. I love her in many films and this is one where she is so good in, you can’t keep your eyes away.

The film is amazing but the fashion is even better, especially when bridesmaids dresses come into play. So here goes!

mbfw-1

Now Julia in this film rocks the lady suit. The high trousers, a blazer, a plain tshirt, a necklace and cool round glasses. And the hair. The Hair. As far as I am concerned, that hair is her costar.  She has the coolest work style and if I ever work in an office I will be taking tips. She still looks young and sexy but you can tell she means business.

MSDMYBE EC012

She looks stylish and reserved. She looks like a lady of the 90’s and very Chanel like. I like this outfit a lot.

mbfw-3

This pivotal scene is also pivotal in the fashion. She’s obviously just thrown some clothes on without any thought into it, but manages to look like a total babe.

This is a strong look and you might have to do a few sit-ups to get this look (or not, who cares really) and could be your summer look or just your look when you are crashing a wedding? Anyway, this scene was very dramatic but I was just looking at the outfit. Too cool.

mbfw-4

Now we come to the crux of the film, and that dress. Oh that dress.

Now my girl Julia can rock it, but this is something else as a dress. My mum had a similar coloured one when she was a bridesmaid, so it must have been a trend!

Either way, she does make it look very good and props to her, as it really could have been worse!

Ahem.

mbfw-7

Special mention goes to Cameron Diaz:

mbfw-6

She has a really cute preppy look in this film and it really suits her!

Look out for my next instalment next Sunday, same Bat Channel!

I’m 31 and I have a 90s Obsession. (Language)

Hi team!

Welcome to the last instalment of my love for the 90s. Have I saved the best for last? Perhaps. I am talking about all the cool words we used to say in the 90s/00s that we thought were soooo cool. I said some of these to one of my young super cool staff members and she looked at me like I was nuts. She then told me all the cool words that she and her friends say and I felt like an old woman as I didn’t understand them at all! Think of how our parents felt!

Lets take the word PHAT. Phat was a word I tried and then was like ughhh….not sure about this one. But everything was PHAT in the 90s, or cool if you aren’t in the know. So totally PHAT. That issue of Smash Hits was totally PHAT this month. The Vengaboys are PHAT. Etcetc.

BOOYAH!!! Which means YAY! AWESOME! YOU KNOW IT! What a word that is satisfying to say and you have to say it loud with some kind of arms spread pose also, just to drive your own coolness home.

Talk to the hand. Just talk to the hand. I LOVED this one as a teenage girl because its so sassy. Accompanied with your palm close to someones face, this was meant to shut people up, including bewildered parents and boyfriends. This one should come back for sure.

Thats so fly. Your top is fly. Ya girl is fly. It means cool. I like it. Its a word that isn’t in use that much but I am sure it still kicks about.

What were your favourite words of the 90s? Tell me!

Im 31 and I have a 90s Obsession. (Music)

Hi team!

So this week I am going to talk to you about music of the 90’s (and 2000’s)

What about it huh. What about it. I was a pop girl at this point and which I appreciated grunge at the time, pop was what I was living for.

It was tacky, amazing, catchy, everything had a dance sequence, and everyone wore those weird face microphones so they could dance and sing (lip sync).

I was all about Britney, AJ was my favourite Backstreet Boy, and Return of the Mack was my party jam. I was living my best life.

Here is a breakdown of the music I liked at the time, and that my boyfriends DESPISED.

Vengaboys

Backstreet Boys

The Spice Girls

Britney

Christina

Aaliyah

Missy Elliot

No Doubt

My first CD(s) was Shaggy’s Boombastic, and Mariah Carey. I know those albums inside and out and are still fans of them today.

I adored Gwen Stefani and still do, she was cool and rocked out, and I loved Britney as she really could dance, while Christina was a vocal goddess.

I amassed a collection (who said impressive? Not me) that encompasses ALL of the 90s and 2000s songs that I loved and that I hadn’t owned. I feel like most of my music collection is from the 90s, and every time I listen to a song from that era it really makes me feel good.

So who are your favourite 90s/00s artists? Let me know!
