Shopping Mindfully.

Fashion

Now the nature of shopping is just buy like crazy. Buy cheap clothes that are trendy, but soon your metallic pleat skirt starts to look a bit tough to wear after the festive season.  Now I love the social aspect of a good shopping day. A coffee, a nose through the new trends, a bargain or two, but I have now trained myself to pick and choose carefully, according to these guidelines.

  1. What is it made of, and can I wash it in my washing machine?
  2. Can I wear it with at least 3 items in my wardrobe?
  3. Does it fit? Does the colour suit me?

This will help you with your initial shopping phase. And KEEP. THE. RECEIPT.

Buying something because it has some money off or because it’s in the sale or its ONE DAY ONLY! is a tough one. If you have gone to buy a good winter coat and they are having a sale on a coat that you want, perfect. However people tend to talk themselves into a sale just because it’s that little bit extra off, and then don’t wear it.

Going out with a shopping list – even when you are shopping with the girls – is a perfect way to make sure you are driven, and you come home at the end of day with something but it is also something useful! New underwear, couple of long sleeved tops, whatever you need for your wardrobe can go on a list, then you can go shopping to you hearts content knowing that you will get things that you need that day and not spend money on things you don’t.

Look at my blog for Wardrobe – from nightmare into daydream for further information on how to get your wardrobe into fighting shape – part of this is making a list of things you do need once you have gutted your wardrobe to make it esker to get ready and project who you really are, and not the person you were 5, 10 years ago!

Let me know what you got on the high street recently in the comments, would love to see some mindful shopping tips!
